asheville pet portraits | black and white

ok, I’ll admit I have a bit of a preference for black and white photography. Yes, I do photograph in color too, but something about black and white photography really draws me in. I think because you’re more inclined to see the subject in a b&w photograph then in color. In color it becomes also about the colors, the setting, what they’re wearing. Color can convey a mood, but b&w can too.

For dog photography b&w can be tricky, specifically when you have an all white or black dog. It’s hard for the camera to pick up all the little details like tufts of hair or the difference between a nose and all the rest of the darkness around it when you decide to go b&w. But, I still love it, and I love the challenge of it.

Here is mostly all white (and adorable) Charlie as a perfect example:

Charlie here is lovin’ his favorite spot on the couch where he sits and watches the world go by. I love these in b&w and just picture them hanging up in this family’s home.

Ball! | Asheville NC Dog Photographer

What is it about a ball that dogs go nutso over them? Are they all like that? My two took to the ball right away and over time have gotten to be completely hooked on it. They even get a slight peek at it and forget it!! lol. It’s pretty darn cute. Well little Kubbie here was no exception. He loved that ball!! And his speed – whoosh!! Little dogs are SOOO fast!!

Needless to say I had a blast with Kubbie and I think he had a great time too!;)

My Muses | Asheville Dog Photography

Meet Darwin and Lucy (Darwin top and bottom right, Lucy left and bottom left). These two crazy pups are the loves of my life. Both are rescues; Darwin was from Animal Control and Lucy from the Humane Society. They are both German Shepherd mixes, although Darwin clearly more German Shepherd than Lucy.

Darwin is so smart and learns so quickly. He sleeps at my feet everyday while I work at my computer. He is SUPER friendly, loves others dogs, but mostly people. His favorites are my boyfriend’s son, dad, and his best friend. Darwin’s super protective of my boyfriend’s son. Even if someone hugs him he gets very nervous and whiny. He’s my big baby.

Lucy is the spunky one. On the surface she seems so sweet and docile, but she can be pretty feisty. She’s the younger one, but is constantly picking on her big “brother” trying to get him to wrestle with her or to chase her. She even resorts to barking and jumping up in the air while spinning her whole body around 360 degrees. It’s hilarious. I’ll have to try and get it on video.

Anyway – I could talk about these two for hours and hours – the same way a parent could talk about their children. I love their very different personalities, their slobbery kisses and all their quirks, even when they are driving me crazy. I love their noses, whiskers, floppy ears, paws, curly tails, and to watch them run in full out euphoric glee. I love everything about them!

And, I’m sure you can relate, which is why you’re here! And I’m glad you are. You understand what it means to love your dog. They’re like your children; as part of the family as any human – therefore deserving their rightful place on your walls, or in your albums. Heck, they may even deserve their own album! And that is what I want to do for you. With my camera, I want to capture the unique personality and spirit of your dog so that you will have the memories of him or her to enjoy forever.

So what are you waiting for? Send me an email or give me call and tell me about your pup.
